Silence can say a lot

In a world that tells you to always speak up, explain yourself, have opinions – silence can feel… wrong. But sometimes, not saying anything is saying something.

I used to feel pressure to fill the quiet. To always respond, always comment, always join the conversation – even when I didn’t have the words.

But Spain taught me something different.

I was surrounded by a language I didn’t fully understand. I couldn’t always jump in. I had to listen. To observe. To be okay with moments of silence.

And you know what? I learned more in those quiet moments than I ever expected.

I noticed people’s faces. Their tone. Their energy.

I connected in a different way – one that didn’t need constant talking.

Silence doesn’t mean you’re weak. It doesn’t mean you’re boring.

It means you’re aware. Present.

And sometimes, silence is the loudest thing in the room.

These tips are based on my experience learning Spanish on a work and study programme in Spain.
