Sometimes, you choose a path that doesn’t feel right anymore. A course, a job, a friendship – or even a version of yourself you’ve tried to become.
And deep down, you know it:
“This isn’t me.”
“I don’t want this anymore.”
“But what if I quit?”
“What will people think?”
Here’s the truth: You’re allowed to start over.
Changing direction doesn’t mean you failed. It means you’re honest enough to realign.
When I came to Spain, I thought I had to stick to the idea of who I was before. But being in a new place gave me the freedom to rewrite things. To try something different. To leave behind what didn’t fit anymore.
And honestly? Starting over didn’t feel like weakness. It felt like relief. Like finally breathing again.
You don’t owe anyone an explanation for becoming who you were meant to be.
So if something isn’t working – walk away. Reset. Begin again.
There’s no shame in starting over. There’s power in it.
These tips are based on my experience learning Spanish on a work and study programme in Spain.
