When you start something new – a job, university or a work and study programme – it’s easy to think, “I need to prove I’ve got it all figured out.” But honestly? That mindset can hold you back. The moment you admit to yourself that you don’t know everything is actually the moment real growth begins.
At first, I always tried to have an answer ready. I thought asking questions would make me look slow or unprepared. Admitting mistakes? I’d rather try to cover them up or hope nobody noticed. But over time, I realized something: The people who learn the most aren’t the ones pretending to have all the answers – they’re the ones who ask honest questions and keep learning on purpose.
What really surprised me was this: when you say, “I’m not sure about this – can you explain it to me?”, people usually don’t get annoyed. In fact, most of them are glad to help. Suddenly, you’re getting real knowledge, not just guessing your way through things. And you quickly notice – even the people who seem to know it all? They’re still learning too, every single day.
So my first tip for you is this: never feel you need to know it all and absolutely do no fear making mistakes, rather be open to admitting what you don’t yet know as with that attitude you give yourself the chance to ask questions and time to learn and develop.
